ADVERTISEMENTS CONTAIN MORE MANIPULATION THAN INFORMATION. DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?

Advertisements serve as a window to an understanding of different ideologies of individuals from all walks of life. The Advertising sector, moreover,  informs people about products they purchase and more importantly, what kind of product specifications they should give importance to. Apart from those fruitful outcomes of ads, they may spark off excessive consumerism or direct manipulation. Because advertisers generally misuse their authorities by influencing people via their glamorous advertisements, we cannot completely approve of ads.
As for those who object to this issue, advertisements are regulated by norms and ethics that amplify people’s knowledge. Let alone a fiscal perspective, advertisements aim to raise the awareness of individuals concerning the agenda and expand their horizons significantly. Most ads appearing in the press always contain a message. Giving the green light to what those ads are telling us may pave the way to understanding better what is happening on the earth. Yet, in essence, the aforementioned ideas are somewhat unreasonable when it comes to capitalism. Due to the profit oriented advertisements, we have a strong tendency to do what advertisers want. Thanks to manipulative language and some specific colors that can attract the audience’s attention, people cannot prevent themselves from falling into line.
On the other hand, a common criticism of opponents is that consumers are so active and smart that they can use their right to buy however they want. In the contemporary world, manipulating public opinion is not as easy as it seems. As manipulative deception is so prevalent in society, people have been good at keeping their eyes open to those advertisements. Professionalism, equally important, in advertising is important and not all ads have the ability / the potential  to change people’s minds. However, today, the quality of ads lies more in the hands of producers than the consumers. Obviously, no investigation by the authorities on the facts is provided in an advertisement. Ignoring and not providing information about  the negative sides of the product, those people treat consumers like  fools. In a nutshell, most advertisements go far and beyond their purpose by using manipulation as a main tool to convince viewers  to purchase what they want.

To sum up, molding people’s minds with the help of manipulation has become a primary purpose of advertisements. People are unconsciously affected by the ever growing trend shaped by the advertiser. Unless governments take some stringent action against some advertisements, people will remain unaware of the huge impact of commercials.
