EUGENICS

Eugenics, which literally means “well-born”, aims to improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally. This technic is very important because it can be a solution to stop the transmission of some genetic diseases such as total color blindness, hemophilia, etc. from generation to generation. On the other hand, eugenics is defined as being God according to some religious beliefs and it cannot be used. Hence, it must be admitted that there are two sides to the coin.
The advantages of this movement are numerous. First of all, eugenics can completely eradicate genetic diseases. Using modern genetic technology, parents can provide vital information about their unborn offspring. They can learn whether the baby has any health problem and the possibility of treatment. Eugenics also makes it possible for women who are infertile or do not have a partner and wish to have a baby to become pregnant.
Eugenics has lots of advantages, however there some disadvantages too: it can be abused. There are lots of bad examples of eugenics where it is used to sterilize people. The best known one is the case of Nazi Germany. They used  Mendel’s law of heredity to show racially mixed parents create  inferior children. Therefore, they sterilized people who did not have pure German genes to produce a superior German race. Eugenics was  also used in U.S in 19th century to cease the growing of undesirable traits such as poverty and alcoholism. They forced lots of women who were especially black to become sterilized and women did not have any choice because the program was run by the government. In other words, they used   science to create a community which they wanted . In short, the human race cannot be trusted.

To sum up, eugenics has several disadvantages but they can be dealt with through legislation and checks and measures. The advantages clearly  outweigh the disadvantages. Although, it was used for sterilization, the main purpose of eugenics is to eradicate genetic illnesses. Eugenics also gives women who are infertile or do not have a partner the opportunity of pregnancy.
