DEVELOPING POSITIVE STUDENT TEACHER RELATIONSHIPS

It’s clear that teachers assume a significant role in students’ education. If the teacher is not effective, successful learning cannot take place. In that case, who is an effective teacher ? Firstly, good teachers should be highly educated about their subject. They can teach the subject to their students clearly. However besides teaching, good teachers should develop positive relationships with their students. Thanks to good student teacher relationships, students’attention and grades can improve. There are a lot of ways to build positive teacher student relationships
Firstly, teachers should approach their class each day with a positive attitude.Positivity is infectious . If the teacher is positive, the students will generally be positive. However, there is no doubt that everyone has problems in their personal lives including teachers. Nevertheless, personal issues shouldn’t interfere with their teaching abilities. They shouldn’t shout at their students and be angry with students because of their problems. On the other hand, although students have a negative attitude to  their teachers, teachers should approach them positively and try to understand their feelings. In fact, they should take more care of them than other students.
Secondly, learning and teaching should be fun and exciting. No student wants to be in a classroom where lecturing and note-taking are the norm. Therefore, teachers should be creative and provide engaging lessons. For example if students are active and in communication with their students and friends in lessons, they will not be bored. In addition, teachers shouldn’t lecture  all the time. Sometimes they should incorporate humor into their daily lessons. They can tell funny short stories or share appropriate jokes. Thanks to these, students enjoy coming to lessons because, they can learn and laugh at the same time.
Lastly, teachers should treat their students with respect if they want students to respect them. They shouldn’t yell, use sarcasm and attempt to embarrass them. For example when a student makes a simple  mistake in class, they shouldn’t mock him. They should handle situations professionally. In addition, they should treat all students the same. They should have the same rules for all students. They should punish and reward students in the same way.
To sum up,  if teachers don’t develop positive relationships with their students, students don’t want to listen to them and can’t learn the subject clearly.  Therefore, developing  positive teacher student relationships is  very important for students’ success and psychlogy. If teachers want to build strong relationships with their students, they should be positive towards their students,  create an enjoyable environment and treat their students with respect.
