Marriage has been deemed
to be a social union between men and women but today, some societies are better
equipped to be more understanding when it comes to other options. For example, earlier
this month, the Republic of Ireland voted overwhelmingly in favor of same sex
marriage. On the other hand, some nations are adamant about rejecting the
proposal calling for the introduction of gay marriage. However there is a
world-wide trend to follow in Ireland’s footsteps. It is no wonder that no
authority can deprive anyone of the right to assert their sacrosanct right to
lead a married life; however, they want.
To begin with the
opponents of this issue, they widely claim that the legalization of gay
marriage will undoubtedly have adverse impacts on society. Initially, same sex
parents must think twice before causing irreversible changes in their lives so
as to enable children to grow up in a
comfortable and normal environment. Scientifically, those children are, especially
in their adolescence, bound to experience utter failure in their relationships,
thereby becoming alienated from their social surroundings. However, in terms of
cognitive and emotional development, children and people of all ages must
acknowledge the fact that no matter how enormously different the situation is,
children must be acquainted with differences. Being unaware of the natural
inclinations of people, no one can embrace different values or learn to have
respect for diversity in society.
On top of that, by and
large, numerous religions regard homosexuality as unacceptable and sinful.
Religious people are not supposed to marry a same sex partner and if they do
so, they violate the sacred institution unfortunately. More importantly,
allowing gay couples to marry poses a serious question to almost all people:
what if the structure of our traditional household was to be destroyed and
eventually changed? Let alone those people who are incapable of being
open-minded; gay marriage does not impinge on the rights of those who are religiously
or morally opposed to it. The benefit of marriage is significant: couples are
ready to help each other both emotionally and financially. People outside the
marriage do not have a word to say in this respect. It is the civil right of
all adults regardless of their gender, to express their love towards each other
and be accepted into society.
All in all, it seems to
me people of different sexes have free will and what is more, their liberties
with regard to marriage cannot be curtailed. Moreover, the underlying cause of
these objections appears to be the sheer ignorance of the society not their
reasonable ideologies. We should, therefore, take heed of those couples
expectations and individual rights
