Throughout history,
millions of people have moved to other countries in search of a better life. Many
immigrants come from their less developed countries due to the fact that richer
and industrialized countries may offer some opportunities for employment including
a peaceful environment. As a concrete example, in some developed foreign
countries, not only free healthcare and schooling but also academic programs areavailable
for citizens. For the sake of those benefits, numerous needy-indigenous people have
rolled in to affluent nations in huge numbers, which sparks off both
developments and reactions in the new country.
As for the added
values of immigration and multi-cultural societies, it can be asserted that
immigration can be extremely positive in terms of the economy. Since many
immigrants have skills that are needed in the country they move to, an emigrant
country having no infrastructure may lose its talented citizens to developing
countries. (because it is the skilled and educated people who emigrate, their
home country suffers) Obviously, immigrants who find work can contribute to the
economy of their new country and hence, they might send money home to help their
struggling family members.Furthermore, immigration creates cultural diversity
also, which causes people of many different nationalities to learn to live
together in harmony. Thanks to such positive relations among people, most of
them may become open-minded and tolerant as well.
When it comes to the
negative aspects of immigration, some people claim that immigrants take jobs
that local people should have. As it is seen in the Ottoman culture, innumerable
permissive laws have perpetually, become effective in enablin the immigrant
population to have a claim that they did not even have in their own country. As
to the immigrant workers that have been deemed worthy of doing simple manual
labour, working longer hours for less money becomes inevitable in addition to missing
their family ( They work longer hours for less money in
addition to suffering from homesickness). Yet, companies might pay lower
salaries to their new and desperate employees and unemployment rates could riseamong the local
population if there are too many immigrants.
All in all,
immigration can help the economy of a country to develop and create
multi-cultural societies where many
people can benefit from different opinions and traditions. However, immigration
needs to be controlled immediately, because companies may exploit immigrant
workers that have no right to equal pay and conditions. So as to avoid the
perverse effect of immigration, the political, economic and social rights of
immigrants should be prioritized by governments..
