POACHING

Poaching is one of the serious problems in many parts of the world. Every year thousands of elephants, rhinos, tigers are hunted for their ivory, horns and skin. This illegal hunting has lots of negative effects on the environment. Poachers cause the extinction of these species and the extinction of one animal affects the whole ecosystem and this changed ecosystem causes other animals to begin to face extinction. These prove that there is a serious issue and governments should take some steps to combat poaching.
First of all, governments should overcome this problem by using technology. A group called Air Shepherd set up a project to solve the poaching problem. They created a portable plane which is flown by computer codes. This plane sends footage to drone operators by using infrared cameras. When poachers are detected from this footage, the operator alerts rangers. This technology is also helpful in connecting data about the habits of the animals. For all these reasons, governments should use this solution to deal with this problem.
In addition, governments should make (create, pass) strict laws about hunting animals and trading  the products to discourage poachers at the national and the regional levels. A greater punishment than the current one can also help to bring this issue under control because when this environment is created, poachers will avoid this risk. Ivory trade for instance, is legal in many countries such as China and Kenya and ivory traders do their job without any risk. However, these traders and poachers can be stopped if there is  some legislation. Hence, governments should communicate and collaborate and make some laws to settle this issue .

To sum up, the problem of poaching should be solved by taking some governmental measures. Due to the fact that poaching causes the extinction of species and affects the  ecosystem, firstly  the government should use technology which can detect and report poachers to the rangers. Governments should also make some strict laws and have harsher penalties to deal with poaching.
