BEING A REFUGEE

Today, thousands of people who are called  refugees are being forced to move from their country because of war, persecution or natural disasters. They are forced to start a life all over again in another country. However, being a refugee brings many physical and psychological  problems . They may have to wait on the borders or stay at refugee camps or they may even lose their life while they are moving overseas.

The most important problems faced by refugees are changes in their life styles. When they leave their country, nutrition, accommodation, dressing, and medical needs become a problem for them. About 80 percent or the world's refugees are from developing countries and most of these refugees seek asylum from other developing countries. For instance, in2014, Turkey accepted 1.5 million Syrian refugees, which is far too many; thus, ideal living conditions can’t be offered. Furthermore, people are far away not only from their homes, but also their social and working environment. As a result of this, they have difficulties working and supporting themselves. To deal with the problem, developed countries should take responsibility. International organizations should be founded and basic rights of people such as education and housing should beprovided.

Another important point is that being a refugee affects people psychologically. When refugees enter another country, they face a lot of negative reaction. Citizens of the new country see them as a threat. Refugees feel they don’t belong anywhere. Unfortunately, children are most affected by the negative impact of this problem.  They live in an unhealthy environment and their future can’t be foreseen. At micro level, people should empathize to understand the situation of people who are forced to  move away from theirown countries. developing international protection policies can also increase the morale of refugees.

To conclude, being a refugee is an important issue worldwide. This issue creates physical and psychological problems. Although many people are leaving their homes in developing countries such as Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, developed countries like Hungary are rejecting them. Problems can’t be solved witha standoff.. The awareness in governmental and private circles around the world of the existence of a tragic and real refugee problem should be raised. Especially developed countries should take responsibility. After all, theproblem is not only about groups of people, it is about human rights.
